Toyota place you behind the steering wheel of its Corolla LE ECO car, once there, you need to put on the Oculus Rift headset that is already connected to the car, the simulation begins and you find yourself behind the wheel of a virtual car, then, Toyota use their Distracted Driving Simulator to give you many types of distraction while you’re driving inside virtual city streets, so how is that ? You will be accompanied with two virtual passengers, one of them on the front seat will be speaking with you while riding shotgun, also you will receive requests to read a smartphone text message while you’re driving, all of this while also listening to loud music from the car’s speakers. The Toyota main goal is to show you how dangerous distracted driving could be.
Chrysler also takes you inside a VR experience, but not to show you the Distracted Driving danger, but while sitting on the car and wearing the Oculus Rift headset, the company takes you inside the Chrysler’s auto factory, using an interactive menu, you can explore the factory with much details.
These experiences will not be available for the public right now, but virtual driving experiences could be the new focusing of the auto companies.
